Metuchen got its name from Chief Matouchin of the Raritan people of the Lenape Native Americans. Originally part of Woodbridge, Metuchen is now surrounded by Edison.
Metuchen is a charming town, with quiet residential streets, a marvelous main street, and a wide variety of excellent restaurants. Shopping is fun in the shops along Main Street, and a newly opened Whole Foods Market is very popular.
Metuchen’s location on the Northeast Corridor Rail Line makes it popular with commuters. A train ride from Metuchen to New York’s Penn Station usually takes less than 1 hr.
Fun fact: Magician David Copperfield was born in Metuchen in 1956
